You Sent Me a Letter by Lucy Dawson

You Sent Me a Letter is one of those books which hooks you in from the first page and doesn't let go until the last. It is a very enjoyable and intriguing read.  On the eve of her fortieth birthday, Sophie is awakened in the middle of her night by an intruder. He leaves her a letter which she is to open at 8pm on her birthday, at her party. Frightened and confused by the threats he makes towards her family, she starts to try to work out who is behind this, as does the reader.

This psychological thriller is a tense read with numerous twists and turns in the plot. The story travels at a fast pace. I would say that the opening chapter is well done and grips your attention from the start. You feel the confusion that Sophie feels and the fear which she has as to possible consequences. I enjoyed the relationships which Sophie has with her mother and sisters. The characters are interwoven skilfully. There are several red herrings to manoeuvre which gets you wondering as to who can be trusted As you discover, several people have secrets to conceal and you cannot take much at face value.

In short: a tense, engrossing thriller, with well-drawn characters.

I received a copy of the book from the publishers, Corvus, in exchange for an honest review.
